Outside the Circus

"What do you mean?" Sam groaned and shut his eyes tightly again. All the news about getting attacked and something new that they hadn't hunted before... and Jenny showing up after about ten years and not even remembering him. Shouldn't she have had some kind of memory? She had been fourteen after all when they'd last seen each other. He didn't like how that had gone... but still. Perhaps she had just blanked it out as a way to deal with it.

He opened his eyes again. "What about getting attacked, Dean, what happened?"

Dean leaned forward at seeing Sam groan and squeeze his eyes shut. Was another headache coming on? Maybe he should tell him about this later when he was not feeling so rough. Telling him about it would only make him worry, and feel worse as a result.

"Do you need some pain meds?" Dean asked, expression laced with concern. Talking about this could wait till later for sure.

"Dean, tell me what happened." Sam ignored him asking if he needed any pain meds. He was obviously trying to avoid the subject, and try not to worry his brother, but it wasn't working. Dean couldn't keep information from him - important information. He needed to know exactly what happened, and Dean had to tell him.

He had tried doing this before when they were hunting before Sam went to college. It didn't matter if Sam was sick or not. It wasn't like Dean would be able to hunt it without any information, all by himself. Maybe with Jenny to help - but still.

Alright, maybe he would have to tell Sam. Looked like his attempts at evasion were not going to work after all. Though how the hell was he supposed to explain any of this to Sam, when he hardly understood what happened himself? He would have to try to, regardless, Sam did deserve to know after all. He would be livid if Sam tried to withhold something like this from him, anyway.

"I was leaving the circus thing, and then Jenny came and told be her car had broken down," that was the straightforward part, Dean paused, expression turning into a frown, "Then this purple thing - the vampenese - attacked us. It was going really fast, and we didn't get a chance to get at it," Dean's fingers tightened their grip on the duvet that he was sitting on, "I think it must have severed an artery or something at some point. I kind of lost consciousness, and then woke up later, with barely a scratch on me. It was really weird, man. Really, really weird."

"What the hell?" Sam asked, sitting up in bed. This wasn't good. There was some kind of creature going around that was too fast for even Dean and Jenny to stop when they were together... how would they be able to kill it?

"How do you know what it was? How are we going to kill it?" He bombarded Dean with questions. How exactly did they know? Had Jenny dealt with one before or something?

"One question at a time, Sammy," Dean said, forcing a grin. He barely knew anymore then Sam about it. They had never encountered one before, anyway. Jenny seemed to have more idea then he did about it anyway. Or at least her Davis guy did.

"Jenny phoned that hunter that she hunts with, and he seemed to have heard of them before, and we behead it," Dean answered, glancing to the window. It was still out there somewhere, and though he knew how they were meant to kill it, he didn't know for sure whether it would work, and at the speed it travelled at, how the hell were they meant to go about beheading it?

"So like a vampire?" Sam asked, leaning back against the headboard tired again already. The fact that he had just been asleep wasn't helping either.

His eyes widened suddenly. "Wait - no - it'll have your scent! I will have followed you and Jenny back here! I'll be able to find us... How are we gunna kill it if it's too fast, Dean?"

He honestly had not thought of that. He was suddenly filled with panic. He had lead it right back to Sam! This was not good, not good at all. Instead of protecting Sam he had put him in danger, right into the path of the Vampaneze. How could he have been so stupid?

"I didn't think of that," Dean admitted, worry creeping into his tone, "You have to get out of here, before it catches hold of your scent. Unless it already has it." The thought of that terrified Dean, "No, we'll have to stay here, wait for it to come to us, and try and ambush it."

Sam was doing his puppy look for a moment, trying to work out a way that they might get out of this. "Wait!" Sam said. "If it was going to kill us, it would have already. It would have killed out back out there before you came in."

Yes. That sounded about right. What kind of vampire-thing would wait? That really wasn't their style. He wasn't sure about this kind of vampire, but he knew that there would have been no point in it waiting. "You didn't wound it, did you?"

"No," Dean admitted sheepishly, shaking his head. He should of, he tried to shoot it, but he didn't land the shot, and so he hadn't managed to injure it. He wished he had, it was embarrassed to think that this thing had a one up on him.

The thing had seemed like it was toying with them at first, but at the end there it felt like it was really going for it, trying to kill them. He had felt the blood leaving his body faster then he thought possible. He was certain he was going to die. But he didn't. That was what he didn't understand.

"I think it was trying to kill us," Dean admitted, because it had seemed like that, "Something must have happened to make it leave, and it wasn't me or Jenny. It probably will be back."

Arra was on the outer wall of the apartment, she wanted to talk to the couple her sister had attacked. She had been trying to find her sister and had picked up her scent, when she heard the screaming she came running from the Cirque where she had been watching a show. She could not flit so it took her a while to actually get to the site of the carnage and the sight of Larten Crepsley had deterred her from coming too close. After he left she got closer and followed the car to this block. She had found the room with ease, the smell of blood was too strong to miss. So she clung to the wall, waiting for an appropriate length of time to enter.

"God..." Sam groaned. He couldn't believe that both his brother and his cousin hadn't been able to stop the Vampanieze, even though there had been two of them... surely something couldn't be that fast... Whatever it had seen, must have scared them off, and they had to find out what it was so that they could kill it.

"We've gotta find out what scared it off." said Sam. "And then we've got to kill it before it gets anyone else."

"Yeah," Dean looked out the window for a second, thinking, "I'm gonna go get a machete from the car." After all, they needed some sort of way to protect themselves if it came back, and standing around like headless chickens was not going to get anything done. They were near defenceless at the moment.

Dean got up from where he was sitting on the bed, pausing for a moment. He should probably call Jenny, tell her the plan, not that there really was one. It would probably be best if they all stayed in the same motel room as well if they were going to try and ambush it.

"I'll get Jenny to go keep an eye on you," he added as an afterthought. He didn't really want to leave Sam on his own in here, especially if they potentially had a vampaneze on their tracks.

Sam was thinking about complaining about how he was only sick and it wasn't like he wouldn't be able to protect himself if he really had to, though he knew Dean was being his overprotective self. That - and that he couldn't be bothered to argue with him.

"Alright." he said. "Wait - if she's seen them before then won't she have something to kill them?"

Dean shrugged, stopping as he hovered by the door, "She hasn't seen one before, her hunting partner has. So, machete it is," Dean's hand went to the doorknob, twisting it and pushing the door ajar.

Arra decided now was the time, she creeped downwards and swung to the window and stood a short distance from the men and raised her hands to show she was unarmed. "We need to talk."

Sam gave Dean his puppy dog look. Who the hell was that? It wasn't every day that someone just randomly walked into their motel room. And Dean never took too kindly about what they did do that...

He got out of bed, quickly, grabbing a nearby knife, just in case.

This really wasn't his day. Was that another one of those things. Dean shut the door again, eying it warily. It didn't look the same as the vampaneze from earlier, and it appeared unarmed, not that that really meant anything. It could easily have concealed teeth, or sharp nails that could substitute for a weapon, and Dean had nothing remotely suitable.

"And who the hell are you?" Dean asked, edging back towards Sam, gaze trained firmly on it as it emerged from the window. Who came through a window anyway? Wouldn't the door make more sense?

"I apologise for such a rude entrance, it would have been difficult to find you from the inside of the building." She bowed, "I am Arra Sails." She needed to talk to them about her Vampanese sister, Kendra. She could see the suspicion of the two men's faces while her own pale face remained calm. Unlike her sister, as Arra was a Vampire, not Vampanese, She was very pale-skinned with grey eyes and white teeth (unlike the the purple skinned, red eyed and red teethed Vampanese). She was dressed in a black tunic top and trousers with a long, velvet black cape attatched at the shoulders.

Dean hesitated, unsure of how to react. He wasn't going to let his guard down, regardless of how polite she was acting. Especially when she could possibly be linked to the attack earlier. He moved so that he was standing slightly in front of Sam.

"Great." Sarcasm laced his response, and he watched her warily, his arms folded, "What are you doing here?

Sam eyed her cautiously. It was never good when someone came up to them saying they needed to talk. He stepped to the side, not wanting Dean to be the one to get hurt if she wasn't all polite and welcoming - which she most likely wouldn't be.

"What do you want to talk about?"

Arra bowed her head quickly and stood awkwardly. "It's about the events of earlier this evening." She replied simply, averting the gaze of the two men.
"Concerning the older male and a female by the name of Jenny." She spoke calmly but her tones were still rather awkward.

"That would be me and my cousin," Dean said, taking a step forward, frowning, "What about us? Do you know anything about what attacked?"

Whatever she was, she didn't seem to be attacking them, and her manner seemed calmer, less frantic then the thing before, leading him to believe that they were not the same person.

Arra nodded, an uneasy expression on her face. "The thing that attacked you was a Vampanese by the name of Kendra. Kenra Sails." She looked down at the floor, ashamed of her sister's behaviour.

Sam lowered the knife, slowly, seeing that she was most likely not here to attack them or she would have done so already.

"What are you?" he asked, knowing that if that thing was her sister then she certainly wasn't human.
